SONKO RESCUES CRIPPLED BOY WHO CRAWLED 6KM FOR SCHOOL DAILY

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko came to tge rescue of a 16 year old boy who crawled to school daily after the story was highlighted by the media.

Sonko Rescue team on Thursday ,September 19,Visited Gilbert Olyeng in Busia County and enrolled him at a special school to save him the trouble of accessing education .

The also paid the Standard four student's fees for the rest of his primary education and gifted him a wheelchair as well as a term's worth of shopping .

For years,Olyeng crawled daily to St.Dominic Aderema primary school 1.5km away from his home.
He would then make a return journey home at lunchtime and resume classes in the afternoon.

After school the student would embrace on the tortorous crawl back home and retire to bed ,only to start the cycle all over again the next day.

"It has been a painful experience for me ,waking up very early to crawl to school .I have to return home for lunch,go back for afternoon lessons then in the evening I go home ," Olyeng stated.

The teenager aspires to be a big shot doctor after completing his education .

"Olyeng got disabled when he was five years and since then ,things have never been the same again for my son," his mother,Rosa Pali ,told the reporter .

He is the seventh born in a family of nine children.

PASSENGERS TEXT 'GOODBYE' TO LOVED ONES AS DELTA PLANE DROPS 30,000 FEET IN MINUTE

Petrified airline passengers sent goodbye texts to their loved ones after their plane plunged nearly 30,000 feet in seven minutes.
Panic broke out on the Delta flight from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdaz when the plane dropped from an attitude of 39,000 feet to 10,000 Feet leaving them fearing for their lives.

Harris Dewoson and other passengers captured the chaos which shows passengers panicking after oxygen mask dropped from their overheads comparments ,cabin crew tried their best to calm passengers down.

Harris told WFTS ,"Out of nowhere ,I felt what felt like a sort of a rapid deoscent.
"One of the flight attendants ,I believe grabbed the intercom and was just repeating over the intercom stating "Do not Panic ! Do not panic !"

But obviously ,its a hectic moment so the passengers around me ,alot of people,were kind of hyperventilating .

Delta said the sudden descent was caused by 'Cabin pressurisation irregulating en route '

Harris added "Life is fragile ".There was a scary 60 to 90 seconds where we really didn't know what was going on .


"You are 15,000 feet in the air .It's a scary moment for sure ."

A Delta spokesman said the plane was diverted to Tampa and landed "without incident"

Mechanics at Tampa International Airport are now examining the phone to find out what went wrong .

Preliminary data by software company Flight Ausari shows the plane descended from 39,000 feet at 4:34pm to 9,975feet at 4:42pm

KDF TO RECEIVE SIX CHOPPERS AT SHILLING 140 BILLION

This could be one of the most expensive acquisition in the history of the country.

The Kenya Defence Force (KDF)Is set to receive six new choppers at shilling 14 billion ,which will raise the amount the government has spent on upgrading its air power in the last three years to shilling 250 billion.

American firm MD helicopters has announced that US army had contracted it to supply KDF with six MD 53 of Cayuse Warrior Helicopters in what could be one of the most expensive acquisitions in the history of the country.

"We are pleased that MD Helicopters was selected to provide mentorship,maintanance expertise and pilot and maintainer training to the Kenya Defence Forces ",Ms Lyne Tilton,the firm's C.E.O ,said in a statement posted on its website
"Supported by the skilled men and women of the MD Helicopters team ,our military operators have successfuly flown hundreds of missions annually ,maintaining operatuonal endiness rates in excess of 90%.

We welcome the KDF to the global MD Helicopters family and are committed to exceed the training ,support and perfomance expectations of both our Us army and KDF customer",Ms Tilton added.

The choppers ,which were ordered last year ,are being acquired on "a five-year £1.4 billion Indefinite Delivery ,Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract."

IDIQ contract which are popular a engineering projects ,provide for an Indefinite Supply of services and Support over a definite period of time .

FIELD SUPPORT
The helicopters will also have a Us army issued air worthiness release Certificate which allows for the potential Deployment of various weapon system.

They can also carry out strikes ,air medical services ,search -aid rescue and fire-fighting missions.

SENATORS SECURE FREEDOM OF 15 WOMEN FROM KITUI PRISON

A group of senators who toured Kitui prison have secured release of 15 women who were held over failure failure to pay fines as low as 5,000.
In a facebook post shared by Senator Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi)the leaders had a session with prisoners who shared their heartbreaking predicaments with the legislators .

Sakaja said most of the rumandees have been following up on their cases  since 2016 but the wheels of justice were moving so slowly hence denying them freedom .

"Mother with children imprisoned for failure to pay fines as low as 5,000 shillings .I'm glad we were able to secure the release of 15 of them but chief Justice David Maraga and Director of Public prosecution must answer to the state of delay ,in the Justice system ," he said.

The vocal politician said it was illogical to keep someone in prison for months over failure to pay 5,000 shillings yet it costs much more to keep them in prison.

Instead ,Sakaja suggested some of them should be converted into non-custodial sentences.

TV HOST SPARKS OUTRAGE BY SAYING SERENA WILLIAMS 'LOOKS LIKE ONE OF THOSE MONKEYS AT THE ZOO' WHILE LIVE ON AN AIR ON ROMANIAN TV SHOW

A Romanian tv host sparked outrage when he said tennis star Serena Williams 'looks like one of those monkey at the zoo' live on air.

Mr.Banciu said :'Serena Williams looks exactly like one of those monkeys at the zoo with the red a***
'If monkeys wore trousers. ,they'd look exactly like Serena Williams does on the court .

He was speaking in Romanian when he made the shocking comments which were later translated into English by Business Insider.

Mr.Banciu was fined £1,484 on the grounds of discrimination and a violation of the rights to dignity according to the board of directors for the National Council of Combating Discrimination .

However it does not appear that Mr.Banciu will lose job following the comments ,the directors added" The Governing based shows that slavery of people of colour was based ,among other things on their comparison with monkeys .

MAN KILLED BY EXPLOSIVES AT GOLD MINE IN MIGORI

A 37-year Old man died on Sunday Evening after an explosion blew up on him at Kehanaha gold mine in Migori County.

Migori county police commander -Joseph Nthenge said the man,who worked at the mine was setting up the explosives to break one of the heavy rocks within the mine.

The County police boss said the deceased sustained severe body injuries as a result of the impact from the explosive commonly reffered to as"Baruti" by the artisanal miners .

The body of the deceased was moved to Migori level Four Hospital Mortuary Pending Police Investigations.

Meanwhile,Mr.Nthenge has asked the miners to be cautious while doing their mining activities to avoid such tragic incidences.

GOVERNMENT ADVISOR ARRESTED FOR SOLICITING KSHS. 500,000 BRIBE IN NAIROBI

Ministry of Petroleum and Mining was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly soliciting for a bribe of Ksh.500,000

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) ,the officer is identified as Joshua Lonyama Angelei ,demanded half a million shillings to fast track the issuing of a mining permit to a company known as indepth mining limited

DCI detectives laid a trap for the officer and nabbed him at Nakumatt Janction on Ngong Road ,Where he was waiting to receive a down payment of ksh.100,000 which he wanted in U.S Dollars .

"A trap was laid whereby the marked and Serialised Us Dollars was handed to him by the Agent Of the Mining Company .

He (Longaman)received the money and pocketed them on the right side of his coat ,"Said DCI

The Officer was detained at Parklands police station and is expected to be charged with the offence of soliciting for bribes abuse office .
